Lifestyle Tips for June:
Ayurveda advises that we practice short cleanses at each seasonal junction to reset the intestinal flora of the body. This prepares the digestive system for the dietary change that comes with each new season’s harvest. This month we will officially transition into summer at the equinox and enter into the season that provides the most vital food sources for our bodies.
With that said, this is the time of year when we can thrive on smaller portions of higher energy foods without the risk of depleting the body of nutrients or energy. We are best supported in warmer temps when we lighten the diet with easily digestible grains and proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, and lots of clean drinking water.
So our tip for Summer is to cleanse and strengthen the body by enjoying as much local produce and clean drinking water as you can. Use this time to build a foundation of strength in the all the tissues of the body so that come winter with its inhospitable cold, you will be much more resilient. Spend time at any of Chicago’s farmer’s markets, find your favorite vendors of the season and make friends.
