Authentic beauty is the expression of our inner vitality. True beauty transcends age or gender and comes from within. It is generated by a strong digestive system, healthy food, meditation/yoga, and anointing our skin with therapeutic oils. Collectively these practices maximize our ojas (inner vitality and essence) and make us look radiant.
Ayurveda teaches that we can observe the health of the internal body via the skin. The skin communicates doshic imbalance, and the level of ama (toxins) and ojas (vitality). Eczema, psoriasis, chronic dry skin, are often symptoms that digestion is not working optimally. Vata imbalance will manifest as dry and cracking skin with tendencies toward depletion and premature aging. Pitta imbalance will manifest as inflamed and oily skin with tendencies toward rosacea and acne. Kapha imbalance will manifest as damp and congested skin with tendencies toward swelling and black heads. Ama (toxins) mixed with excess dosha can manifest as cystic acne and a host of other maladies. Depletion, dullness and lackluster skin are signs of diminished ojas.
