Meet Mihir Surati, an accounting student at DePaul. Mihir came to Hamsa with a severe form of dandruff and chronic acne that was unresponsive to medications. From an ayurvedic perspective, Mihir developed an excess of ama (toxins) and pitta dosha. His cleanse focused on cleansing the blood and liver while destroying pathogenic bacteria and fungi in the GI tract. After several weeks we began to slowly introduce probiotic foods in order to repopulate the gut. Mihir is still on a maintenance program with Hamsa. Read about his success with ayurveda in our interview.
1. Can you give a brief description of the overall cleanse program and duration that you did at Hamsa?
The cleanse program introduced me to Ayurvedic medicine, herbs, and how to chance my lifestyle depending on my body ailments. Specifically, the program emphasized diet and medicine to reduce pitta and balance healthy gut bacteria. This included the reduction of dairy and sugars in my diet, and an intake of parasite killers and blood cleaners.
The cleanse lasted for about 2-3 months, however the results are still on going. Ayurvedic medicine works
2. What did you gain from your cleanse experience?
I learned that Ayurveda is not only a system of medicine, but more importantly, a guide to a better lifestyle. Ayurveda does have incredible herbs, but it also forces you to change your whole lifestyle based on your body type.
3.What were some of the highlights of your cleanse?
The results! I like that the cleanse really got to the root cause of my skin condition instead of using topical agents to supress the condition. Although the results do take a little longer than traditional western medicine, the end results are a lot more satisfying.
4. What were your favorite parts of the cleanse?
My favorite part of the cleanse was learning about the different Ayurvedic herbs. Each herb has a different role, and it is interesting to see how each herb will effect the body. And of course, the results of my skin finally clearing up was AMAZING!
5.What were areas that you struggled with?
I struggled with the diet portion of the cleanse the most, because there were many restrictions. However, when looking back, these diet restrictions are an essential portion of the cleanse. It definitely does get easier as you explore different recipes.
